Comprehending leg pain coming from the low back.
By Joshua Moffatt
Sciatica means pain in the hip and is commonly associated with the Sciatic nerve which is a celebrity among nerves in the body as it is the longest one and possibly the most widely recognized.
What really causes Sciatica?
Most people with signs of Sciatica will already have had lower back discomfort before they'd Sciatica; there is not any coincidence here as for the majority of people the problem will originate there. The nerves that join together to form the Sciatic nerve really originate in the back. As well as these nerves there are also masses of muscles, ligaments, discs and spinal joints which can refer pain down the legs
Could it be something else?
In some extreme cases Sciatica like symptoms might be due to more serious conditions like Problems with veins or some of the organs.
What is referred agony?
This is where the brain confuses a pain signal from one area with another area. A widely found kind of this problem is folk with heart issues who feel discomfort in their jaw; the agony is coming from the heart but the brain confuses it with agony from another area
How long will I have Sciatica?
It is dependent on the scale of your injury and other risk factors:
Decreased activity, heavy lifting, prolonged sitting with poor posture, prolonged sitting in soft chairs, smoking and previous injuries of the back all increase the odds of getting sciatica and for suffering lengthened symptoms
What can I do to stop my Sciatica?
Manual consultants like Osteopaths, Physiotherapists and Chiropractic consultants frequently treat patients with Sciatica. Acupuncture, Yoga and related exercise classes could also help. Pain killers can be useful at decreasing the discomfort but they will not address the underlying cause
Do the NHS treat Sciatica?
Often NHS treatments for sciatica will include pain killers and exercises given by a physiotherapist providing it is not caused by something more worrying.
