How to Trick Your Metabolism To Keep Your Weight Loss From Hitting a Plateau

By Vanessa Summer

If you're like the majority of the people out there, you have tried a few different diets and had a different degree of successes. You probably have lost excess weight, until you get to a specific point, and then you don't lose any more, no matter what you do. This plateau is hit by almost everyone and is common amongst all of the different weight loss programs. There is a new way of bypassing this plateau by trying to trick your metabolism.

You most likely have already hit the plateau at least once--in fact, it has possibly caused a frustrating end to more than one diet program. The plateau is a strange occurrence and it happens to even the most successful dieters when they reach the third or fourth week of their diet programs. Right until that point the weight seems to come off with no problems and then it just quits and nothing really works to help the body lose more. It's your body responding to the things you're putting it through. Your body goes into protection mode to avoid hunger, so it slows down your metabolism. What this ends up doing is preventing your body from shedding any more weight.

That is why people stop trying to shed pounds because, this plateau keeps them from believing that doing so can be done. This is just what causes most people to start eating again and they often gain back more weight than they lost in the first place. The way to prevent this is to opt for a diet in which you just shift your calories. What you want to do is eat a different number of calories every single day, which purportedly helps you fool your metabolism. If this works, it keeps your body from turning the switch and going into protective mode. This will keep your body's metabolism working, as opposed to slowing down, and your body goes on to lose weight. When you get to this point, you will have passed your plateau and your diet will keep on working the way it was designed to work.

It is very easy to integrate this type of plan into your everyday living. One of the most widely used caloric shifting solutions is the 14 day method. In this plan, you stick to your diet for eleven days and then on the 12, 13 and 14th days you eat the things you truly wish to eat. You can rotate your foods during the day and deceive your metabolism and then for three days eat what you wish to eat and stop the plateau. This is also pretty handy in keeping you on the right track with the more stringent dieting plans. Just continue repeating the fourteen days until you've achieved your weight loss targets.

The 2 day plan is one other very good plan in which you eat normally for one day and then trim your calories by 20% all the way up to 35%. You could keep on doing this every two days for as long as needed to get your weight off. It's a program that you should try, since it may be exactly what can get you past your plateau, to where you will get rid of all the weight you'd like.
